About this painting:

Don't Worry About Me is an oil painting depicting self castration and emasculation in progress, originally painted on a 4" x 4" canvas. The intimate angle of the piece brings the viewer into the painting and assigns them a feeling of culpability. The fast and loose brush strokes provide enough detail to understand what's happening, but deny a fully exploitative gaze. For example, no clear incisions are seen.

By leaving out the central figure's face, the viewer is not provided answers regarding the motivations behind this castration and must discover their own feelings and assumptions about it. Likewise, the title Don't Worry About Me has an ambiguous tone — it could be liberatory as much as dismissive.
